OT- Garden Visit
From: Dennis Kramb <dkramb@badbear.com>
Thursday morning I was fortunate enough to pay a visit to our very own Gene
Bush's Munchkin Nursery in south-central Indiana. Very cool place! Lots
of irises in bloom, mostly beardless & species irises. He gave me the
whole guided tour. It was great!
Additionally, the drive along Indiana State Route 64 to his nursery was
incredible. Such beautiful countryside. And it seemed each house along
the way had huge rows of TB irises lining the roadside. It was gorgeous!
He had cristatas in bloom and I'm kicking myself because I forgot to
collect some pollen. He had some tectorums too, come to think of it. No
big deal. My jap hyb is still weeks from blooming, I think.
Anyhooo...this guy's got one heck of a woodland display garden: arisaemas,
ferns, columbines, rhododendrons, trilliums, phlox, anemones, clematis,
irises, and a bunch of other stuff that I had never even heard of
before.....including this cool plant that looks like a red-hot-poker but
has yellow flowers and gray foliage. Gorgeous!!! Oh, and I don't know
what he does to his trilliums, but they look like they're on steroids
compared to mine. <grin!>
If you get a chance to visit his place, you won't regret it! If you can't
make it there in person, then do the next best thing by visiting his web
