MED: Initial Report from Chuck Chapman's
From: Sandy Ives <rives@home.com>
Very briefly:
We saw Chuck's new beds and his old seedling bed (this is its last year before
reverting to wheat) this weekend.
Saw a couple in his new bed I suggested he line out. His introductions for this
year in the median class include two from his 'Carpet' series (Heather and
Coral) and a very nice sanded blue 'Iced Wine'. Anyone who has sampled ice wine
can appreciate the name.
However, the main impression I have is that he finally has space for planting in
his new location.
His old seedling bed has some very interesting, very varied seedlings from Ruby
Eruption and from Klingon Princess. However, we literally stumbled over a very
dark, near black plicata SDB. First bloom; therefore we have no idea how true
it will be, whether it will stay in class, whether it is rot-prone...but it was
very exciting.
His neighbour, as neighbours are want to do, decided he would help keep the old
bed clean... and removed all the bits of plastic stuck in the dirt. Chuck has a
map, but I'll have to get the seedling numbers from him next year.
Regards,
Sandy Ives in Ottawa Canada (z4ish, where Immortality is blooming with the SDBs
and Sunray Reflection will likely open tomorrow)
