Re: CULT: Bloom Out, Preventing

Hi Kitty.  And welcome.

Try setting a seed pod on the stalk blooming out.  I know -- I know, they're guest plants, and you're not supposed to.  See if you can get a take.  The theory is that the plant realizes it's a mother and will try to manufacture some extra growth to support that pod.  Then there are those that say that would be a sure kiss of death, because what energy *is* left is being spent on trying to develop the seeds.  Flip a coin.  Take your pick.  Or hopefully some of the *real* scientists and hybridizers on the list will have a "correct" answer.  (And chunk the pod, if you try my method, when you harvest it this summer!...)

I would like ideas on how to encourage Iris which look like they are heading towards bloom out, to start growing new plant growth!  I apologize if this has been discussed before and I didn't catch it.   I have a guest garden for our Region's Spring garden tour meeting for next year.  I am looking at my guest bed plants which are blooming nicely the first year, and see a few problems.
