Seems obvious to me that catalogs would be most likely to keep
breeding/supplying irises that have won awards or have been listed
consistently among regional favorites - one way to distinguish them from the
crowd. And those that are consistently among regional favorites tend to win
awards, too. Is this too simplistic?

I would like to pose a question for discussion, NOT crucifixion!!
Here goes: WHY are older variety of IRIS usually always TOP award winners
in polls and shows? I find it interesting since 100's of new variety are
introduced every year! Perhaps I am missing something , but it is like,
why rock the boat...buy older variety and don't waste your money on
something new.
So everyone chew this over and I will let you all discuss ,what maybe is
not obvious to ME!!
