Re: PHOTO: I've got the blues

Hi Christopher,

There have been a few good posts about metering and filters, but I thought
I would add my $0.02 worth.

For better color accuracy, choosing the right film is important. There has
been some good info on Kodak film. I also use a lot of Fuji film (I never
use anything except Kodak or Fuji, always slide film, 100 asa or lower).
Fuji makes 3 types of slide film generally available in the USA: Velvia,
Provia, and Sensia. Velvia is a professional grade film (means not
available in drugstores -- only sold out of refrigerators in photo shops)
which produces extremely rich oversaturated color. It can make for very
dramatic outdoor photography, but not especially accurate, and can be a bit
violent to light flesh tones (it can be wonderful for darker hispanic,
african or asian skin tones though). Great for scenic and nature
photography, but not so great for accurately recording Irises. Horrible for
indoor flash photos. Provia is another professional grade film, which
produces much truer, accurate color rendition, though not with as much
"punch" as Velvia. Probably a better choice for Iris pictures. Sensia film
is the consumer version of Provia. Most people will not notice any
difference between Provia and Sensia unless the Sensia has been sitting on
a display stand for too long.

In my personal opinion, Agfa is inferior in all respects to Kodak and Fuji.
Seattle Filmworks film is horrible stuff that should be banned from the
planet. The developed negatives fade within a couple of years unless stored
in a freezer, and you'll never be able to get any future reprints. Absolute
garbage!

Scott.
