Seed germination on last years' bearded crosses has slowed down to a near standstill.
It was interesting to see how some crosses had very high percentages of germination,
while in the pot right next to it nothing is sprouting at all. One particular cross yielded
54 seeds last year. They were nice and ripe and plump, and I had high hopes of seeing
a few seedlings poke their noses up this year. Not one has yet germinated. The
neighboring pot yielded 44 sprouts out of 51 seeds. Is this the factor that allows
some seeds to germinate several years down the road working here, or something else?
I also planted 350 PCN seeds, and only 4 have germinated. I thought PCN germinated
readily, like siberians? I have an estimated 400 siberain seedlings out of 540 seeds
planted at the same time as the PCN seeds.
All seeds were planted in January and allowed to weather outside naturally, with the
alternating temps and wet of an Ohio zone 5 winter.
Should I let the low/no germination pots go for another winter cycle before pitching them?
