CULT: Bloom Report - BSP Indicators

From: "Jeff and Carolyn Walters" <jcwalters@bridgernet.com>

Hi Talk-ers!

The weather has finally warmed up here (mid-70's compared to mid-40's a
week ago) and the iris bloom season is finally showing signs of getting
seriously underway. So far I have had bloom on the following cultivars that
made the Final Indicators List for the Bloom Sequence Project:

April 20: Alpine Lake (MDB)
May 19: Orange Tiger (SDB)
May 22: Dark Waters (IB), Lemon Pop (IB), Rosemary's Dream (MTB)

Lemon Pop (Lauer, '90) is living up to the reputation that won it the Sass
Medal - 5 stalks from one rhizome planted last summer with well-formed,
proportionate, ruffled flowers in a scrumptious shade of lemon yellow -
it's vibrant color easily catches the eye as I look out the window from
where I am sitting at the computer as I type this. Dark Waters (Aitken,
'92) is another quality IB in every way, and in a smooth darker tone that
seems to be something of a rarity in this class. Another IB that is new
here that opened its first bud this week is Sonoran Sands (Tasco, '96).
This one is a very attractive golden yellow with thick plicata markings of
rich cinnamon on the falls. If Dave Niswonger had named this one he would
probably have called it something like "Double-Rich Cinnamon Custard". (-:
