I am beginning to wonder if the real 'Bronze Beauty' exists. Three
attempts
to grow it have resulted in three different plants, none of which match the
description.

It was widely grown just a few years ago, but has been around long enough
to have some imposters making the rounds. I acquired mine in the mid-70s,
and it matched the photo in the old Austin catalogs, so I'm confident I got
the real thing. I know I've uploaded a photo to my web site, but am not
sure whether I've yet set the link. [My mother's been having a bad spell
and I haven't had the chance to do anything to my site for almost six
weeks. Sorry 'bout that, folks....]

Another puzzle - the checklist entry for Van Tubergen (the hybridizer)
lists
it as a RH which would follow from its hoogiana and stolonifera parents.
The
subsequent entry which registers it, lists it as a RC hybrid. Is this a
typo?<
Yes. It will be corrected in the '99 CL, but it won't be listed under that
name. This was a missed registration we were trying to correct, but
neither Kay nor I caught that in the meantime the name had been approved
for a TB.
