Re: SPEC: I. setosa

Do I understand correctly that you are saying you have a setosa which
germinated in 1998 and which in 1999 has 11 fans and will bloom?

Anner,
Oops. I miscounted...... there are 14 fans. Three are teeny and got overlooked the first time. Most of the plants are showing anywhere from 3 to 5 fans with a few others showing 7 right now.
The showoff is just starting to throw up a bloomstem. 9 others out of 70 started last year from seed offered by Duane Buell are showing bloomstems and 2 of these should open into deep dark blue types in the next day or so! (He said the seed was collected from a number of colors.) Since the setosas are just starting, I'm hoping there will be even more blooming this year.
Since germination on these was so good, I shared a lot with a neighbor. I'll have to check and see if any of hers are blooming yet.
This isn't normal? They sure seem to like it here. :)
I remember an earlier thread about different strains of the same species perhaps needing different germination times..... I got seeds of another strain of I. Setosa at the same time that was handled the same way. None germinated, so I planted the seed and let Mom Nature take care of things. This batch is just now germinating. Guess it needed a double dose of chilling.
