Anner may have experience with setosas.... My experience is quite limited. 

I brought home the first setosa last Spring... a nice little dwarf type offered by one of the local nurseries... and promptly fell in love with them. 

The seedlings, courtesy of Duane Buell's efforts at seed collecting, are my first try at starting this species so I'm just beginning to learn about them. When a number of them showed signs of blooming at a year old, I just figured this was natural for them. :)  Don't suppose compost helped encouraged them, but it couldn't have hurt.
