Same here, Rod. The Springfield area is about 7 inches above average for
rainfall so far this year. I'm surprised I don't have any more rot than
I already have. We didn't have slimey bloomstalks last year. Re
rhizomes, one thing I decided to do is note which ones I lost to rot
this Spring after they wintered over just fine, and when I replace them,
to give them drier footing.  We are planning to move everything this
summer to a sandier bed and use this bed for vegetables. Our bloom was
wonderful, though we won't come close to your 3x3x6. Congratulations! I
bet that was fun. 

Found a fat worm in one of the spent buds, eating away. I don't think it
was a borer. Can anyone i.d. a brownish worm with short yellow streaks
