Re: HYB: depth of color

So if the number of plastids determines intensity of color, it does
sound as tho crosses between non-pink cultivars with intense color (of
some other type of carotene pigment), but with pink in their genes could
be a way to get more intense pink color if the pigment type isn't linked
with the number of plastids. <?>

Now for the real killer question - anybody have any thoughts about
whether or not more plastids (more pigment) might show up spontaneously
(random mutation)?

< I don't recall seeing anything about the size of the plastids, but
rather
have the impression that it is their number that is significant -- with
the
differences in intensity explained by their varying densities and the
hue by
the mixture present in a specific cultivar.
