RE: Purple Leaf Base

Purple leaf base seems to be different with Standard Dwarf Bearded then with the talls. So far I've identified only a few that have PBF and two examples are Candy Queen and Limesicle. This characteristic seems to be recessive and as far as I can tell neither parent of these two examples have PBF. Limesicle is a green glaciata and also has very dark green foliage which seems to be related to the PBF. Also the green colour of the flower of Limesicle seems to be chlorophyl based judging by the darker green foliage.
There are a number of SDB that have a bright violet colour on the rhizome which is independent of PBF. This colour is only seen when the outside foliage is pulled off. It also seems to disapear when exposed to light as it is not seen on the base of these plants on older foliage. In contrast PBF is only seen on leaves exposed to the sun. When you remove a leaf with PBF the purple disapears where there was an older leaf covering it.
Does anyone else have observations of these characteristics on SDB?
