Patrick, it must vary with regions.  If a stalk grew that quick here, it 
would be so thin and wispy it couldn't hold up a bloom. Someone did research 
on this in our region and the "average" here, in a normal spring season, is 
19 days.  They say we've not had a normal season since somewhere around 1942! 
 Who knows?  

For me, it is harder to calculate in the fall as temps tend to be more 
erratic.
