Patrick, I have some garbage cans I use for covering tall stalks.
  Usually, just
the garbage can is protection enough, and I have to do it only on one
night because of rapid warm-ups. We are already back up into the
seventies. Sometimes I put some newspaper as insulation in the can.

The bud in the ZIGGY cross is just breaking the fan, so we'll just
have to wait and see how it progresses in the warm weather before the next
freeze. I'll probably cover it anyway. It should produce a broken color
flower.
