AR: handling arilbred seedlings

Walter, you are making me nervous here. This is the second time you have
referenced not lining out arilbred seedlings in spring. I have been doing
that. I really can't tell that it has been harmful or made any difference,
but I haven't anywhere near the experience in this area you have. It's true
they have been usually less eager to grow than the TB X TB, but most of mine
died in the pots before lining out, or then took a very long time to kick
off after lining out. Some TBs also have done this, but the ABs have been a
little harder to grow as a general rule. Once they reach a certain point,
though, they have gone on to do pretty well. However, the current crop of
seeds I'm planting now are ALL ABs of one kind or another, so you are making
me a bit anxious about the future.

Frankly, carrying anything over in pots in our Texas heat has not been a
real successful endeavor for me. Pots require constant attention and sooner
or later something is going to interfere with my being able to give it the
kind of attention pots seem to require. So what would be your suggestion
here? I know you are familiar with the arid heat (worse the last 3 years)
that I have in my part of Texas west of Fort Worth. I'm currently trying to
get more than 3000 of these seeds potted up and hope to see some results
next spring. I'd hate to do all this work now only to mess up next spring.
Any comments from you will be welcome.

TIA

Texas Zone 7b, USA - and who fervantly hopes that I NEVER have such a
successful podding season again. It's taking all my extra time just to get
these things planted. I soak and that means rinsing once a day. Every pod
is kept separate, so that's a lot of tagging, both for storage and soaking,
then again for planting. Plus I'm being more precise with the planting
medium than in the past = more time. 'Course I was beside myself with
pleasure when I got the pods this spring!
