How to Eliminate Green Moss?

Am looking for some "home remedies" to eliminate green moss. Internet
sources such as Ortho online, or the Alabama Cooperative Extension
System inform that there are only temporary remedies, but look to the
cause for permanent solution.

Thats because green moss is usually the result of improper drainage
and too much shade. Another contributing factor is poor air-
circulation, which slows the evaporation of water from the soil.
Green moss growth may be aided by soil compaction in low spots which
allow water to stand on the soil.

I have roto-tilled the area, and the green moss returns. Ortho says
chemical controls such as 4-6 ounces of ferrous sulfate or 10 ounces
of ferrous ammonium sulfate per 1,000 sq. ft.

A product from Safer Brands, "Safer Moss & Algae Killer and Surface
Cleaner" claims to be organically safe and is not harmful to other
plants (irises in this case) contains 2% herbicidal soap and
supposedly will eliminate green moss.

Has anyone used the the Safer Produc, ferrous sulfate, or is there
a "Grandma's Recipe" which will rid the iris garden of the invading
green moss?
