Back in January of 1996, I remember being contacted by a HIPS group
via e-mail concerning an e-mail HIPS Robin. Since it was not
archived (or I don't know how to get to an archive), I cannot put my
finger on who started it, but I remember somebody in MA getting it
'airborne.' It was somewhat awkward for me because all of the
messages came in one long email. I don't think it came from a server
as such. It didn't last long. Then, in February of 1996, iris-l
came along. It ran off a server at rt.66.com (or something like
that), overseen by Tom Little of Santa Fe, NM. I think it was Tom
Dillard who was instrumental in getting LAIRIS and the SLI Website up
and going, but I don't think he was in the founding fathers of iris-
l. Even though Tom Dillard is heavily bearded, he is mainly into
beardless irises and is the SLI 2002 Convention Chair, which is
probably the reason he hasn't said anything about his 'inventions.'
Anyway, we appreciate all of these computer guys, whoever they are.
