HYB: germination ease

I split this out into a separate thread, hoping to get some input from
others. Everybody, what lines (colors, ancestry, whatever) do you have
easiest/worst germination?
I wonder... we've had several folks on this list who live in iris heaven
report that they get immediate germination from freshly planted seeds
and several posts from folks NOT in iris heaven who have NOT been able
to get germination of fresh seeds. I suspect that irises that thrive
where climate is more variable (spring one day, dead of winter the next)
are less likely to have seeds that are the easiest to germinate. (<easy
to germinate> being relative)

<Purissima derivitives, shell (or pink bud) pinks and such--
these lines no longer exist in such pure form as
they did in the
fifties and sixties. Pedigree charts reveal
criss-crossing of lines
to such a degree the generalization she makes has
little validity any

As for plicatas, my impression has been that as a group, plicatas
perform worse than the average iris here, but I haven't ever liked them
that much, so haven't paid that close attention to how many have lived
vs died. STEPPING OUT dies. The blue on whites seem to fare worse than
the browns or reds.
So Keith K's info that plicatas are the easiest to germinate only
supports my 'theory'.
Neil continues:
<A more current remark worthy of note comes from Keith Keppel
who notes that plicatas, in his experience,
germinate more readily
and faster than any other type cross.>
I noticed in the 2001 R&I that Griff Crump has introduced some of his
seedlings from the WABASH & other historic crosses he was working with,
so at least one person continues to struggle with recessive amoenas.
Neil continues:
< The amoenas to which Wilma refers are, as you
suggested, indeed the
Wabash recessive type. Few germinate from
crosses.>
