Re: mulch


I always wondered about that. I have heard that decomposing sawdust and 
wood byproducts take nitrogen out of the soil as they decompose. Now 
considering that bearded iris hate too much nitrogen, as long as you 
didn't cover the rhizome or a small space around it, wouldn't that kind 
of mulch be GOOD?

(Especially for us idiots who are cumpulsive cultivators and like to 
amend the soil with rich organic stuff...)
