I'm in shock. I found an SDB in bloom today when I went out to clean
up the bed. The last day of November, with weeks of 30s lows!
But I was even more amazed that it seemed to be one of MY seedlings,
planted out last summer. This, if it's mine, will be my first to
bloom!
And it's gorgeous! It looks a little like both parents -- Plum Wine
x Little Violet Charm. If I had them both in bloom I could compare,
see if it's one or the other instead of their cross. But both pics
and descriptions in the registers don't exactly match, and it's where
I planted seedlings of that cross, some distance from the parents.
So I think it's mine!
There is marvelous color saturation, deep violet with more reddish
plum in the centers, though not really a thumbprint pattern. Beards
are purplish blue, and there are faint white lashes on either side.
I had steeled myself for a real dud as my first seedling. But I
couldn't ask for a more wonderful first. I am known in some circles
as the purple lady, so I guess it is fitting.
Pardon my raves,
