Maybe someone here can give me some courage,,,,When I went to Marion (high
foothills near Ashville) to put flowers on mom's and dad's graves , I went to
Pleasant Gardens to visit my only living aunt and uncle. Aunt Rena has a
little back porch that is glassed in with no heat. She has about 8 (maybe
more) Christmas Cactus out there. Red , Orange, almost White, Fushia and pink.
They were beautiful ! One of them came from my Grandma and I have a piece of
it that Aunt Rena gave me a few years ago. It is doing great for me in my
dinning room. I was admiring hers and she said, "oh a little piece of the
almost white one fell off and I stuck it over here, if you want it.." Of
course I did and when she pulled it out , it had a little root already
started!!! Now, this morning I was looking at it and it looks good so far. I
just planted it in dirt when I brought it home. Is there any thing else I
should do for it?
Also, I have a porch that is glassed in but not heated. I wonder if I could
keep plants alive there like she does? She cracks a window from the top that
lets a little heat out to hers. I am thinking of doing the same thing but I do
not want to take the chance on loosing one of my cactuses. I am just a scardy
cat, huh? Her porch is on the southwest side of her house and mine is on the
northeast. There are two window walls and two enclosed walls on both hers and
mine. Hers is a little smaller. Why can't I trust doing this......??? Do any
of you have a similar thing going on maybe with these cattuses...
