Re: REB:
Had a new stalk of 'Immortality' last week with one last flower yesterday;
didn't even notice the stalk till the flowers started opening. It was
protected up near the north side of the house. That's probably it for the
season, even if it warms up again. Have had several nights just below
freezing now (coldest at 27 F). Most days in the last 10 or so have been
struggling to reach 70 F. I think the last flowers on Sunflowers,
Lavender, Oregano, Hollyhocks, Mums, wild Asters, etc. all got blasted last
night. The last of 'Eleanor Roosevelt' got blasted last week some time.
Slow year for rebloom for me; maybe the plants saving up for a spectacular
spring bloom??
Still have lots of flowers on the Rosemary, and Violas, but they bloom all
winter anyway. Still warm enough for butterflies, but getting hard for
them to find much nectar now. I'm keeping some mud puddles in the yard for
them to visit (I really enjoy them swarming in the yard). Wish I could say
the same for Grasshoppers, still plenty out there, and they're all coming
to the green stuff around the house now (chomp - chomp - chomp). And the
millers at the light - yikes! - have a feeling it's going to be a cut-worm
& hopper kind of spring.
central NM, USDA zone ?8A or 7b.
