Re: OT: Murphy's Law

I can sympathize. Lots of similar experiences with Murphy and cameras.
Glad your OK.

In 1994 I was in Argentina for five weeks with two SLR cameras. I was
photographing mostly cacti and scenery. Mid trip I managed to loose my
close-up lenses. Then I fell and broke a linkage inside one camera. I
dropped the other down a cliff I was climbing the same day, and cracked the
body - nowhere near civilization. Went three days without a camera,
which was really tough. We were in the state of Catamarca, among the most
photogenic places in the world. I managed to get one camera fixed for
$200.00 at a shop in Salta (back then the cameras were only worth about
$150.00 in the US, but an identical replacement in Argentina was $500.00).
Everyone on the trip thought it was pretty funny (they were laughing at the
acrobatic displays of klutziness, not my misfortune). As for me, mostly
just wounded pride - I was the leader of the trip.

Still have both cameras. One now has a broken takeup reel and the other
needs a new light meter (which they don't make anymore). Great cameras
though, so I'll probably hold on to them and hunt for used parts.
