Re: HYB: ?novice pollen daubers/hybridizers

Linda,

Your musings about new pollen daubers coming up the pike falls in the shadow
of my own musings re the last two bulletins being primarily obituaries. I
didn't want to say anything because even as new as I am (just over three
years ago I didn't even know AIS existed!) I recognised the names of the
deceased as highly influential and probably gregarious, helpful, types.

As for the influence of the forum... I think it's very likely that there are
many posters and lurkers out there using the forum as their primary source
of information on many aspects of irising, myself included. There's just
something about being able to ask questions and get (if someone
knowledgeable will respond) the information that you are interested
in/hungry for this week/ today as opposed to waiting until the subscription
periodical arrives and hoping they wrote something you can use. In fact my
experiences on this forum caused me to go look for a similar forum to help
me in other areas of interest (of course that was the week my computer
started acting up :] )

But, the original issue... the new daubers to follow in the footsteps of
those who have passed... this forum is just naturally going to help those
people get established. The way we can trade ideas, respond to posted
seedling pics, gain information about the newest in genetics... puts us all
in a position of influencing the way irises are grown from here on out.

All of which is going to mark the path for those new daubers... even if the
footprints have faded before we get there..

Christian
