Just leafing through the Reblooming Iris Checklist I find lots of TB parents
given. The only one I found with a dwarf parent is ELEANOR ROOSEVELT (Sass
33) registered as IB. Its parents are listed as AMAS (TB) X (pumila x unknown).
I don't believe that ELEANOR was fertile, therefore was not a parent of
rebloomers. Not mentioned as rebloomers themselves, but given in parentages of
some rebloomers are MELODRAMA and WHOLE CLOTH. This is notable because they
come from Paul Cook's historic PROGENITOR (IB) line.
Zurbrigg's BABY BLESSED (SDB) is a parent of his IB I BLESS and Earl Hall's
LITTLE SHOWOFF (SDB), but not of TB rebloomers. I think reblooming SDBs are a
fairly recent development. Our SDB introduction SILK AND VELVET (92) is a
very late fall rebloomer and often freezes before reblooming. We have crossed
it extensively with various classes and have had many interesting seedlings,
but only one proved to be a rebloomer. It is our 2002 introduction SHOUT which
reblooms in summer and fall and was in bloom yesterday. SHOUT's pod parent
was our ICE AND INDIGO (91), which I didn't think had any reblooming background,
but found its grandparent MICHAEL PAUL in the checklist as reblooming in
California.
