Re: RE: AIS: Irisregister.com

Hi Betty,

I imagine once the online database is complete that it will be updated once
a year to include the newest information. A CD product would also be
updated in the same fashion.

A CD would basically be designed so that the same interface and code that
makes it work is identical for each successive year. Think of this as a
standard template. Then the date source that the code reads would be the
only thing that needs to be inserted each year. Under such a plan the
Society would issue a complete CD each year instead of offering an upgrade
version. You would never have to purchase an invidual year record because
each CD would be a complete record of the most current data. First, of
course, you need to establish an official database to contain the
information. This same database would also be able to generate the reports
necessary for the printed checklist in just a few seconds. It sure would
make compiling and arranging the written checklist very efficient. I am not
sure how it is currently done.

There are some pretty savvy database people in this forum that could
elaborate in more detail. The real key is establishing a master record.
John J. could probably answer if the data has to be manually prepared for
the online database from the Registrar's record each year as it is set up
now, or if it is automatically imported with the click of a button. Long
range planning is the key to the efficiency of success and monetary
responsibility.

Bobby
