My goal is to have fun, learn and enjoy some nice iris I made. Maybe they
are not good enough to introduse. They sure can be nice enough to grow for a
few years.
I have seen quite a few "new" introductions that would be on the compost as
soon as they quit blooming. Some were nice iris but did not grow good in my
area. Some were great.
Maybe I can not compete with the big guys. Maybe my odds of getting a great
one are not near as good as theirs but I got a chance. They are trying to
make a living doing it. I am just having fun, I already know I am not going
to make any money.
Just think. You have 40 seedlings. That's 40 times you get to see a iris
bloom that no one else has, beautiful or ugly. And it is all yours. For me
that is a super thrill.
You have to start sometime. I like wide crosses. I crossed a peach pink with
a blue and got 40 yellow and white and one blue plicata. It was not a
planned cross it was there, two blooms handy.
I have about 150+ that should bloom this spring. Can not wait.
