My message sent last night didn't make it to Iris-Talk, so I'll try
again tonight.
I have been planting seeds held over from 2002 for the past two days.
They were soaked ten days and refrigerated since early July. Every
cross, so far, has at least some seeds sending out tiny roots. Some
show almost 100% germination, though I really won't call it that until I
see their little green shoots come out of the ground.
Here are some observations: The roots start from the pointed end of the
seed. Therefore it seems logical that that end should go down when
planting. Small seeds have sprouted just as well as big fat ones. One
cross produced white, immature looking seeds. They had turned black and
most were sprouting.
I won't look at this year's seeds until I get all of last year's
planted. It will be interesting to see if they are making little roots
as well.
