I have no idea what <real> hybridizers mean by a wide cross. To me, it
means not just different grandparents, but cultivars from different
hybridizers working with different lines in different climates for
several generations.
My favorite wide crosses are also between different color classes and
patterns.
Examples: crossing Schreiner, KK or BB bicolors with Zurbrigg selfs.
Not many of these have bloomed yet, & I do expect a lot of uggly
children with awful colors. Hoping for good (or at least prettier)
stuff in future generations.
