Hi Donald,
I think you hit the nail on the head. TBIS was telling people that their
spring tours would be cheaper for people to attend than the AIS Conventions (No
time "wasted" on section meetings, etc.) if they couldn't afford the time or
money to attend both. Naturally, this offended the AIS board members. Not only
is having two conventions a drain on convention attendees, but also on
hybridizers being asked to send guest irises to two conventions instead of one.
This may not be a problem for Schreiners or Cooleys with their hundreds of acres
of plants, but for small hybridizers it can be a strain. We get many
requests from regions, as well as the national, for guest plants and just cannot
supply them all from our backyard garden.
