I will not kick this horse any more than has already been done. My one concern
is that I wish the two groups could at least cooperate. I am concerned when
active AIS members write articles for Tall Talk instead of the AIS Bulletin.
The non TBIS members could also benefit from several of the Tall Talk
articles. If the two groups cooperated then maybe the articles could be
reprinted.
Now about AIS holding conventions only during TB season; I doubt that many of
you would not attend a convention and spend monies for airfare, ground
transportation, hotels and meals to see gardens with only MTB's or PCN's
blooming, for example . If AIS did this the convention probally would draw
less than 200 members and the BOD would declare "never again" and immediately
go back to TB season.
Now about AIS pushing only TB's; I have other hobbies with similar problems. I
also fly radio control model airplanes and belong to a group called "Academy
of Model Aeronautics" (the other AMA) with over 150,000 members. About 85% of
us only fly RC models but the AMA supports the whole spectrum of the model
aircraft hobby. Over half of our monthly magazine "Model Aviation" is devoted
to the other areas. Surprisingly our "RC only" members gripe about so much of
the magazine not relating to their interests. So AIS like many organizations
has to walk a narrow rail to keep peace within the whole group and special
interest groups are formed to fill void that some believe AIS is not
covering.
