That is sad to hear.  The same thing is happening here - I knew things
were changing when they installed a water line to the local county high
school, then put it in along my road.  Now they have just not only paved
the road, it has a stripe down the middle!

Development isn't happening at quite the rate & expense here as where
you are, but it's certainly headed in that direction.

Maybe you could offer to plant irises as ornaments in the golf course
rough!  I've considered trying to grow a few at the ritzy Whitestone Inn
complex that has gone in near me.  There are some nice potential iris
beds on top of a hill overlooking the lake, on real soil, eastern
exposure, excellent air and water drainage.  A possible place to grow
some pollen....
