REB: a visit to Stanek's

I was lucky enough to get to go to Tim Staneks place
yesterday just in time to beat the frost. Hes been
hybridizing reblooming irises for many years now and with
the good season weve been having, he had just of ton of
seedlings and named varieties in bloom.

Aunt Mary looked absolutely terrific. It was very tall
and the blooms were very large. The cool temps really made
for perfect color. Its been passing on rebloom, so
hopefully Ill get some reblooming seedlings too. AM has
been blooming pretty much since July at my sisters house.
Another of Tims intros, Days of Summer has been a very
consistent performer too.

There were quite a few that I had never seen rebloom in our
area. Decker had a nice stalk. Hagers Fall Rerun was
just outstanding, with huge blooms and wonderful
fragrance. He had several clumps of Mariposa Autumn, and
October Splendor was almost through. Mesmerizer even had
some stalks. Bonus Mama was blooming too.

He has some pink seedlings that look promising, one that
should be introduced next year. Cornhusker had already
finished, but I got to see a sib. Quite a few of the Days
of Summer seedlings had rebloom stalks. There were also a
few really interesting Hager seedlings. The yellow amoena
really caught my eye, Ive never seen anything in that
pattern rebloom here. The other one that was interesting
was a pastel blend that has horns in the spring.

Once I got caught up in learning the parentages of the
seedlings, I forgot all about taking pictures. I did run
off with a few stalks, so I can post some pictures.

if it HAS to frost, at least there are a lot of stalks to
enjoy indoors
