Re: "Cord" (was TB: mulberry trees affect on iris)

According to the source I checked, a "cord" of wood is 128 cubic feet, as
measured in a pile 8 feet long, 4 feet high, 4 feet wide. The name originated
from the use of a string (cord) to measure the pile.

I've always wondered that myself, and never knew. The question triggered the
urge to look it up. Thank you!

Worms in Mulberries? Drat! I love Mulberries, and have eaten them faster
than the birds every chance I've ever had. The only thing more fun were the
wild black currants we had along stream traces in the warmest parts of Idaho.

I also just found out where the name came from--they were called currants
because they came into Roman markets from Corinth. Another piece of trivia
for the collector of such.
