Re: HYB:Seeds
I usually end up planting all the seeds I have collected, but I do rank the
crosses according to their interest to me. This year I have four rankings with
the last being bee pods with the pod parent recorded. These last seeds will
probably be used in germination experiments and might not ever be planted
out. The crosses with the highest ranking are planted first and are planted with
the fewest seeds per pot.
Speaking of germination experiments, last year I tried an experiment with a
1 inch layer of perlite under the seeds. The control did not have this layer.
Although there were several hundred seeds in each container, all from the
same cross, I found no difference in the germination. Could be that this cross
was just a good germinator, but I won't bother perlite in the future.
