This was advice I was given some 20 years ago.  Can't say I've always  
followed the advice, since a cross has always been more important to me than  
retaining the plant.  My theory being that I can buy the plant again, if it  dies 
and I want it that bad.  I ask because this has come up in current  
conversations with breeders, with the same thing being said again, some 20 years  later. 
 
People are not waiting for a second years bloom on their own seedlings (I'm  
not for sure) so I don't see how it would be any different for imported  
plants.  Thought there might be a concept I'd missed.
