Ack!! I'm convinced that short X short breeds mostly short. And that short and pink and rebloom have four doses of short!
I am definitely breeding for pink, but as with everything else, am starting farther back than the rest of the world. <g> So, my approach is using some taller rebloomers as parents, those few that have proven themselves here for many years, crossing with tall pinks, then working for tall pink rebloomers in future generations. With performance the top priority here in 'the vale'.
I figure once I get some tall pink lines that <thrive> here, are highly fertile, and are descended not too many generations from IMMORTALITY, HARVEST OF MEMORIES, or maybe TEA LEAVES, I can start making crosses with your pink rebloomers to improve width and substance <g> Or maybe I will even have some good ones on my own by then.
High hopes for seedlings from that nice pink PINK FORMAL X CELEBRATION SONG seedling that bloomed this spring. Form is waay retro, but substance and everything else was good, plus loaded with fertile pollen, & an outside chance for rebloom. Unhealthy foliage, but good growth so far. And pods from it with HUNTER PINK and OCTOBER SPLENDOR this year, plus more pink crosses with HoM and IMM this year might produce something good.
Super healthy seedlings from HoM X PINK QUARTZ (14) and TREASURED (8) should bloom this spring and could all be tall. Outside chance of rebloom from the TREASURED cross. But blooms are all likely to be small (HoM). Not so healthy babies from BEL ESPRIT (11 survivors) - can't remember if BE is sporadic rebloomer right now.
Might even be something I can use from one of the IMM, CSONG, DIGNITY DANCER seedlings (5 survivors so far, and will probably get a few more germinants this year). Or possible from some of the tangerine bearded non-pinks - several seedlings from various crosses of IMM and kids - WHO'S YOUR DADDY (13 survivors), a few from DOCTOR ALAN, ROMANTIC EVENING, ABOUT TOWN, SHARPSHOOTER. DOCTOR A is registered at 34" height, but always has good height here compared to most rebloomers.
And more seeds from IMM & kids this year, including a FOGBOUND baby already germinated. Also t bearded LADY FRIEND, CHINA MOON (three pods!), maybe a few more... Some might produce pinks - wasn't sure from pedigree (i.e., GOLDEN PANTHER). Not all of these are tall, but at least have tall parents/grandparents.
Should you become interested in pink as a class, try breeding a couple of pairs of the best and selecting for height. Maybe the cure is to breed for tall Border Bearded in the pink class. <vbg>
