REB: curious case of MATRIX vs MATRIX

I have two different colonies of MATRIX. One is older, I believe came from Hall. From what I was hearing from others on the list, I wondered if it was the 'real' MATRIX, so got a new start of MATRIX from Winterberry about 3 yrs ago.

The first colony blooms whenever conditions suit it - it has consistently bloomed spring and fall, plus off and on during the summer months some years.

The second colony is strictly early/late cycle rebloomer, usually frozen out spring and fall, much heavier bloom than the first colony.

The few undamaged blooms from the cycle version are identical to the summer version in every way that I can see.

I don't know what to make of it - are they the same plant that has some epigenetic changes in one or were there two virtually identical seedlings that made it into commerce?

Any of you see anything like this kind of variability in other cultivars?
