Last year, when I posted this message, I received one or two condolences, assuring me that the seedlings wouldnbt survive the winter. Am happy to report that both survived and prospered, and Ibm looking forward to seeing bloom next spring. -- Griff From: J. Griffin Crump Sent: Friday, December 11, 2009 10:51 PM To: iris@hort.net Subject: HYB: sprouts Just finished planting seeds today -- 2 months later than usual. Imagine my surprise when, opening the winter frame (a mesh-topped enclosure open to the weather), I found two sprouts in a pot left over from a previous year. One has three leaves, the other two, and both are less than 3 inches tall, so I must conclude that they have sprouted during the last couple of weeks. Never had fall sprouts before. The pot was completely shaded, so I moved it to the opposite wall of the enclosure, where it will get winter sun and warmth reflected off the wooden wall, and gave it a light covering of pine straw. The low was 22 last night. It warmed up to 39 today.
