I haven't done that, but I did notice that the website includes a graphic (map) farther down the page with isolines for chill that indicates there are some chilling hours in southern CA and none in southeast Texas or southern FL
Oops - I just noticed that I didn't include the link to the original website that has all the stuff about chill, including the isoline map - it's

Chuck, do you know enough about the calculations for the Utah model to say why it doesn't work for southern CA?
The website says the Utah model is a 'weighted average' of the hours below 45oF and hours between freezing and 45o. Maybe they mean averaged over several years? Which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I would think the chill hours would be simply the cumulative hours between freezing and 45.
