I've always used the phrase PCI (Pacific Coast Iris) as PCN (Pacific Coast
Native) is also a widely used TLA (three letter acronym) for Potato Cyst
Nematode which is a soil pest that can be carried on iris roots (and just
about any other plant for that matter) and is a major pest of potatoes (as
the name suggests).
What abbreviation is used in the R&I??
Incidentally, I have a friend who studied at Imperial College, London. Whilst
he was there, the more nerdy students were very into talking in abbreviations
- so much so that they had an Imp. Col. Abbv. Soc. (Imperial College
Abbreviation Society). Maybe it is better to use longhand notation!!
