If somebody had just opened the Bulletin envelope, pulled out the
contents, held up the cover, and asked you what it was, would you have
said THORNBIRD?
I would not have gotten it on the umpteenth guess. First, I have
never seen THORNBIRD with spoons/flounces, only extremely dark violet
horns if it had any appendages at all. There is a lot of orchid in the
falls on the cover picture, and I have never seen this coloration as it
grows in the MS/TN area or where it was in bloom at conventions I have
attended.
Different cameras catch nuances of color in different lighting
situations. But, my questions are
Do the falls often show orchid?
Is it common for THORNBIRD to have spoons?
Does the Bulletin cover picture accurately capture
THORNBIRD?
Previous Bulletin pictures have seemed truer to what grows in my
yard.
