Hi Ellen!

I grow both forms of variegated I. pallida, and Aurea (aka "Zebra")
definitely is the more vigorous of the two. However, I believe that both
are mutant forms of the species I. pallida without any other infusion. I
agree that the flower color is not "pale" and I would hardly call it
"blue", either. Terms such as "lavender" or  "light violet" would more
naturally occur to me. We should remember that the species was named
"pallida" for its pale, papery spathes, not for the sake of its flower
color.
