Lucky you. This year was my first convention and I will not be going to
Denver. I may make the one after that.
You can expect to be very busy for the duration of the convention.
There are board meetings, section meetings, judges training and garden
tours. I did not attend the board meetings. You can find get the
latest registration lists at the section meetings and there is usually a
slide show and speaker to highlight new developments. The board
business at the section meetings was very brief.
Judges training is useful for non-judges too. If you exhibit, hybridize
or plan to do either, judges training will give you a better
understanding of what you need to do to get the prizes. There was a
pretty full turnout at all the training sessions.
Then there are the garden tours. Buses load up very early in the
morning to visit gardens. Refreshments are available at each stop and
lunch is usually arranged somewhere en route. Time is limited at each
stop and you will find yourself hard pressed to see everything in the
garden.
All-in-all, you will be immersed in irises. You will see pictures of
iris, you will hear speakers on iris, you will see iris and you will be
talking about iris. Most importantly, you will be surrounded by people
who love irises.
