Those green lady bugs are probably Cucumber beetles (don't know the
scientific name).  Light green with black dots.  Yes, they will eat the
petals.  The only control I use is to catch them and squish them between
my fingers.  Also breath into the flower to make them rush out.  They
don't like our breath, at least mine anyway.  Lets consider us lucky
that they aren't around in the spring.
