I attended a hosta lecture not too long ago and the speaker tackled the 'rain
vs watering' topic that we're chewing on. He noted that most people will
tell you not to water at night because you're inviting fungal diseases... and
and pointed out that Mother Nature doesn't read gardening books, so it rains
at night and that does NOT breed fungal diseases. He claims that the
difference is that in most cases, rain comes equipped with a breeze that
keeps disease spores from settling.
