CULT: Mulching TB Irises/Pine Needles

It looks like whether or not to mulch TB Irises should be based on
local growing conditions. When I first planted my TB Irises here, I had to
mulch them with the readily available Slash Pine Needles because they would
otherwise dry out too fast. Now, even with an occasional heavy rainfall
event, the mulch stays because we are going close to 10 days between rains.
However, when next year's rainy season comes... Also, remember that
growing TB's here is an experiment.
Most Beardless Irises will appreciate a permanent mulch of Pine
Needles.
