Rima,
The only reason to mulch TB Irises is to keep ones that were planted
too late from heaving. This is a concern in climates where the soil goes
through many freeze-thaw cycles, as in Kentucky, parts of Ohio and
Tennessee... As long as that snow cover is present, there will be no
problem. If it does melt, mulch the Irises. If any heave, stomp them back
into the ground before putting the mulch over them.
Also, if a cultural practice works for you, continue doing it no
matter what the "experts" say. Different climates require different
cultural practices.
