Ian,

Have you tried neomarica.

Our Mark Cook is the resident expert. The offset he gave me is growing
steadily, one of the healthiest plants in my glassroom. The culture is not
difficult.

In addition, I found another form of this species growing in the
horticultural section of the San Diego Zoo. I brought home a bunch of seed
and it is doing well. A friend has germinated the seed also and their flats
are better than mine.

Neomarica northiana (unusual) or gracilis (more common) give very early
(March) spring bloom indoors here in our cold climate. I first saw a plant
at a spring bulb show in Massachusetts and found it quite worthwhile.

This is a South American, not African. I, too, will try the African iris
seeds this winter. If you find an other good info please post it.
